Meibomian Gland Expression is provided by trained technicians at Mount Joy Eye Care. It works by applying pressure to the eyelids to express the glands and squeeze out the oils. Small paddle-like instruments are used to compress the eyelids. Cleaning the eyelid margins reduce the inflammatory factors, reduce the bacterial build-up and improves the natural flora along the eyelids. A major improvement is opening the meibomian glands along the eyelids, which secrete oils into the tear film to keep the tears on the eyes.
